The Making of Singular Reverence

This painting titled Singular Reverence marks my return to the figure. After a 10-month leave to explore non-figurative abstraction painting, NFTs, and augmented reality technology, this colorful painting brings me back to my ongoing Cycles of Life series.

Singular Reverence depicts the iconographic symbol of the halo or nimbus over the silhouette of a person. This symbol has served as a signifier of spiritual character going back to Hellenistic art and throughout the Middle Ages. However, in this painting, the dark halo provokes questioning of its association with the figure and the overall narrative of the painting.

In my paintings, ambiguity and specificity simultaneously play an integral part of the work welcoming various views of interpretation.
